Kitsch is conceptual restaurant brand design. The restaurant’s name is derived from the German word kitschen which means “to throw together”. It’s other meaning is “Considered to be in poor taste but appreciated in an ironic or knowing way”. The restaurant’s concept plays off of these meanings by using ingredients that are considered simple and common and turning them into fine dining cuisine. The branding is meant to communicate the restaurant’s style by having folk art styled illustrations and patterns giving the feeling of a kitschy design while being refined with clean detailed line work. The design is meant to target mid to high income and health conscious individuals between the ages of 45 to 55.

Note: This was a group project. The illustrations, logo, and stationary was done by Carla Bostock. The typography and website were done by Mariko Rose.
